Install Unstoppable Code on Ubuntu using the Debian package (.deb) from the
download page. This guide also covers sign-in, Git, and updates.
Choose your download
The supported release is Ubuntu Desktop 24.04 LTS. Make sure it is fully updated. Newer Ubuntu releases are not supported yet.
Check your computer's architecture in a terminal:
dpkg --print-architectureIf the result is amd64, choose Linux (x64). If it is arm64, choose
Linux (arm64). Package filenames end in -linux-x64.deb or
-linux-arm64.deb. For example, version 1.2.3 uses
unstoppable-code-1.2.3-linux-x64.deb and
unstoppable-code-1.2.3-linux-arm64.deb. Download the package that matches your
architecture; do not install a different architecture.
Verify the download
Download the .deb and use the Checksums link next to it on the
download page. Also download the Command-line tool archive:
the checksum file checks both downloads. The checksum filename ends in .sha256
and matches the package's version and architecture. Keep all three files in one
folder without changing their names.
Releases are unsigned today.
Open a terminal in that folder. Replace <checksum file>, including the angle
brackets, with the exact checksum filename:
sha256sum -c --strict <checksum file>Both downloads must show OK. If either is missing or fails the check,
download the matching files again before installing.
Install and open the app
Open a terminal in the folder containing your download. Replace <file>.deb
with the exact package filename:
sudo apt update
sudo apt install ./<file>.debAPT installs the app and its dependencies, including xdg-utils. Keep the ./
before the filename so APT installs the file you downloaded.
Launch the app from your app menu as your normal user, never with sudo.
You can also open it from a terminal as your normal user, never with sudo:
unstoppable-code-desktopThe unstoppable-code-desktop command opens the graphical app.
unstoppable-code is the command-line tool described below.
Set up sign-in and Git
The app stores sign-in tokens in GNOME Keyring and needs it unlocked.
If you use a minimal desktop without GNOME Keyring, install it:
sudo apt install gnome-keyringSign out of your Ubuntu desktop and sign back in. Open Passwords and Keys, unlock your login keyring, and try signing in to the app again.
Git is required. Check whether it is installed:
git --versionIf Git is missing, install it, then restart the app:
sudo apt install gitUse the command-line tool
The app ships a bundled command-line tool for its own use. The package does not add this copy to your shell's PATH. To use it from a terminal, choose the standalone archive or run the bundled copy by its full path.
Download the matching Command-line tool archive from the download page and
verify it as described above. Its filename ends in -cli-linux-x64.tar.gz or
-cli-linux-arm64.tar.gz; choose the same version and architecture as your
package. Extract it into a folder you own and keep the whole folder together.
Open a terminal there and run:
./unstoppable-code --helpYou can add that folder to your shell's PATH. In-app Add to PATH is not available on Linux yet.
To use the bundled copy instead, confirm its installed location and check its version:
dpkg -L unstoppable-code-desktop | grep resources/cli
"/opt/Unstoppable Code/resources/cli/unstoppable-code" --versionRun the command-line tool as your normal user, never with sudo. Keep the quotes
around the full path because it contains a space.
Update the app
The app tells you when a newer version is available and opens the download page.
The app verifies update information for you. Download the new .deb for your
architecture and check it using the verification steps above. Quit the app,
install the new package with
sudo apt install ./<file>.deb, and reopen it from your app menu.
Updates are manual; the app does not install them through APT in the background.
Troubleshoot common problems
| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| No download or update is available | Check your connection and try again. Wait for a download matching your architecture. |
| APT reports the wrong architecture | Run dpkg --print-architecture again and download the matching package. |
| APT cannot install dependencies | Run sudo apt update, check that your Ubuntu software sources are enabled, and retry the install command. |
| Sign-in cannot save your details | Install GNOME Keyring if needed, sign out and back in, and unlock it in Passwords and Keys. |
| Git is missing | Install Git, check git --version, and restart the app. |
| A sandbox error prevents launch | Do not disable the sandbox; contact support instead. |
If you still need help, use Contact support. Include the app version, architecture, Ubuntu version, and the step that failed. Remove tokens, credentials, and private paths from any logs you share.
