Fork and archive chats

In Work in Unstoppable Code, a project holds tasks, and each task can hold several chats. Fork a chat when you want to try another direction without losing the one you have. When you're done, mark a task done, archive it, or delete it, and restore it later if you need it again.

Before you start

Run several chats

  • To start a new task, hover over your project in the sidebar and select + (New task).
  • To add a chat to the task you have open, select + next to the chat tabs (New Chat).

Each chat starts with the project's instructions and files, and its conversation stays separate from the others.

Fork a chat

  1. Go to the latest reply in the chat.
  2. In the row of small buttons under it, select Fork Chat. Hover over a button to see its name.

A copy of the chat opens in a new tab in the same task, and the original stays as it was. A Forked from conversation line marks where the copy starts. Select it to go back to the original.

The agent in the copy keeps what it knew up to that point. If it can't, the new tab shows Starts fresh here, so tell the agent what it needs to know in your next message.

Mark done, archive, or delete a task

  1. Hover over the task in the sidebar and select More actions (the three dots).
  2. Choose one:
    • Mark done keeps the task in the sidebar with a check mark. Choose Mark active to undo it.
    • Archive moves the task and its messages out of the sidebar and keeps them until you delete them.
    • Delete moves the task out of the sidebar and removes it for good after a set number of days, 7 by default.
  3. Archive and Delete ask you to confirm:
    • Archive Chat? says "This archives this Chat and its messages. Archived chats are kept until you delete them."
    • Delete Chat? says "This deletes this Chat and its messages. Deleted chats are kept for 7 days, then removed." The number matches your project's setting.
  4. Select Archive or Delete to confirm.

To change how long deleted tasks are kept, use Keep deleted chats for in the project's settings. See Organize a Work project.

Reopen a closed chat

Closing a chat tab you've used archives that one chat inside its task. To get it back:

  1. Open the task.
  2. Select the archive button next to the chat tabs (Archived Chats (N), where N is how many there are). It appears only when the task has archived chats.
  3. In Archived chats, select a chat to read it, or select Restore Chat to reopen it as a tab.

Restore Chat is offered for 7 days after the chat's last activity. You can always read the chat, or select Summarize to start a new chat from a summary of it.

Restore a task

  1. Under your project in the sidebar, select Archived and deleted. The link shows a count and appears only when the project has archived or deleted items.
  2. Find the task. Type in Search archived and deleted, or use the filter beside it to show only archived or only deleted items.
  3. Open the task and select Restore. It returns to the sidebar.

To remove an item for good, open it, select Permanent, then select Delete? to confirm. To clear every deleted item at once, select Empty trash at the top of the page. It lists the items it will remove, and you confirm before they're removed for good. Neither can be undone.
